Sanger, Texas is the home of RiverWind Norwegian Elkhounds and their two human companionsElizabeth (Libby) Parmer-Smith and her husband Major Clint S. Smith.
Libby grew up with dogs. Her 4-H projects centered around them and dog training. Elkhounds have been part of her life for 20 years now. After finishing Law School, Libby was seeking a fun, fuzzy dog to run with her and to train in obedience. Thor of the Cedar Hills CD, CGC (the first of what now number many Elkies to share a home with Libby) arrived in 1985. He was purchased as a pet and proved to be a delightful companion. (He did have huge ears and was very dark and was definitely pet quality.) His wonderful temperament created a devotion to the breed that has stayed with Libby. CH Ardon’s Inheritance CD (Dollar) was Libby’s first show dog and many more have followed. Libby shows and trains in conformation, obedience, agility, and tracking with her dogs.
Currently on active military duty with the United States Army and stationed at
Fort
Hood,
Texas
, Major Clint S. Smith is part of RiverWind too. Clint met the family in 2000 and with Elkhound approval joined the family in 2003. He loves the dogs and spoils them rotten and is learning to train and show them when he has a spare minute.
We love the dogs and enjoy competing with them. All of our Norwegian Elkhound breeding stock and companions dogs are American Kennel Club registered and Champions. We breed occasionallywith health as a primary goal. We strive to promote responsible dog ownership for the life of the dog and will stand behind every puppy we create.
